Toru is the first implementation of our Information Access layer. It is a search engine that understands natural language and returns direct answers with cited sources, no ads, and no tracking.

The gap in modern search

Search has not fundamentally changed in 20 years. You type keywords into a box, get 10 links, and spend the next 20 minutes clicking through pages to find your answer. It is slow, cluttered, and optimized for advertisers, not you.

AI chatbots got closer, but they introduced new problems: no sources, no context, and no verifiable accuracy.

Building Toru

We built Toru to combine the reliability of traditional search with the conversational ease of AI. Ask questions in natural language and receive direct, accurate answers with full attribution.

How it works

1. Understanding: Toru uses AI to understand your intent, not just keywords.
2. Retrieval: We search multiple sources to find the most relevant information.
3. Synthesis: Toru reads the sources and synthesizes an answer in plain language.
4. Attribution: Every answer includes citations, so you know exactly where the information came from.

The bigger vision
